                                2.2.2 Main target group
Who is the key target group for the programme?
The interdisciplinary fields of visual, digital and interactive media are evolving at a bewildering rate. Subsequently, many practicing professionals and even recent graduates find themselves rapidly outdated and outpaced by the changes in their professions.
In line with the CLEVER vision, the department of Photographic Communication sees as an integral part of its mission the necessity to offer paths of development and upgrading to these audiences, to extend their knowledge and to update their professional practice to meet the needs of the changing media. This is the true meaning of Life Long Learning.
The LLL programmes practiced by the department include the following:
Going Out into the World
As a direct consequence of the LLL and sustainability workshops at CLEVER, the department devised a creative leadership program named “Going out into the World”. This program aims at promoting the leadership and entrepreneurial qualities of the students through activities directed at the general public. The students (usually groups of 2-4 each) were encouraged to locate areas of weakness, difficulties or lack of facilities in target audiences and develop creative solutions.
Throughout the program (14-16 weeks each), the students engaged with a defined target audience to learn the needs and devise a working solution.
It should be emphasized that this process is not one where the public is a client and the students a service provider. Rather, this is a process whereby the two sides undergo a learning curve which involves understanding each other, understanding the needs, devising a solution to the needs, promoting a strategy, and working together to a solution.
So far, this program has culminated in several very successful and sustainable projects, including:
